Germán Márquez dreams of the World Classic

The right-hander dreams of having more prominence in Venezuelan baseball

The Venezuelan pitcher, Germán Márquez, confessed his intention to play with the Leones del Caracas in the LVBP and to join the Venezuelan rotation in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

In an interview with the journalist Thomas Harding of MLB.com, Márquez stressed that he wants to have a greater role in Venezuelan baseball, so he hopes to have the support of the rockies.

“Since I was a child, I wanted to have the letters of 'Venezuela' on my chest. It's going to be a dream, and I have to be ready. I think I'm going to play winter baseball,” he said.

Despite this, he was aware of needing the approval of Colorado manager Bud Black, as well as the administration led by Bill Schmidt.

Márquez hopes to finally make his debut with the long-haired team in the upcoming rent-a-ball campaign, after several years in the capital's organization.

The 2023 World Baseball Classic will be played in March. Venezuela is part of Group D with Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Israel and a team from a Qualifying Tournament.
