Larense's foil Antonio Leal gave Venezuela its first silver medal at the Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games.
Leal, who came to the fair as three-time champion men's individual foil, yielded in the Grand Final to the Peruvian Lucas Luthar 15-14.
At 34 years old, Antonio Leal had advanced to his fourth consecutive final after beating Chilean Gustavo Alarcón in the semifinal 15-7.
Previously, he had dominated -with the same score- the Peruvian Joaquin Espinoza.

Antonio Leal was looking for a new bream to add to the glories of Sucre 2009, Trujillo 2013 and Santa Marta 2017. But he bumped into Luthar, a young athlete just 18 years old, who has successfully trained in the US.
Women's Individual Epee Bronze
In the women's branch, Venezuela obtained its first medal of the fair, a bronze from the espadista Lizze Carolina Asis.
The Venezuelan fell in the semifinals 15-11 against the Peruvian María Doia and shared the third link of the podium with the Paraguayan Gabriela Viveros.
The gold went to the Colombian María De Los Ángeles Jaramillo, who dominated the Peruvian María Luisa Doig in the Grand Final 15-13.
