Djokovic won the Australian Open

The Serbian expanded his record with 22 Grand Slam

Already one of the greatest athletes in the discipline, this Sunday Novak Djokovic not only vindicated himself in Australia but also reached his 22nd Grand Slam trophy. For the Serbian there is no better way to start the 2023 season by winning the Australian Open.

Novak beat Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (3) in the final 6-3, 7-6(4) and 7-6(5) in two hours and 56 minutes. Pass that accredited him as the best in the tournament.

Melbourne received the tennis player after the Australian authorities deported him in the previous edition for not being vaccinated against Covid-19.

For this new year the figure entered the country without major mishap and now with this achievement he reaches the Spanish Rafael Nadal with 22 "major" in the general classification of men and women with more Grand Slam titles.

List led by the Australian Margaret Court with 24, and followed by the American Serena Williams with 23.

Djokovic takes first place in ATP

He also displaced the young Carlos Alcaraz, positioning himself at number one in the world ranking. Unfortunately Alcaraz was unable to defend his position at the Australian Open due to injury.

Which, Alcaraz was very clear and does not suffer from egos, a few days ago at an awards ceremony in his native country he declared that if Nadal or Djokovic would obtain the ATP number one it is "because they deserve it."

However, the 35-year-old racket player has had to face not only younger rivals but also his physical performance, which fortunately did not take its toll in the final.
