Murray prevailed in close duel against Basilashvili

Scotsman Andy Murray beat Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili (2) by 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3) and 6-3 in a tremendous fight in the second round of the Sydney International.

"I would have liked to have done it faster but I am happy to have served well until the end," he explained after the conclusion of a match that lasted more than three hours.

The 34-year-old Briton improved his first serve success by 30% during the third set, an aspect that gave him peace of mind from a rest with which he intimidated the Georgian's serve on his first chance of the third set.

His next opponent in the quarterfinals will be the Belgian David Goffin (8), with whom he maintains a resounding 6-0 favorable face-to-face.

“He had a difficult year with injuries and is on his way back too. It will not be an easy match, "he commented on the Belgian.

Murray continues with options in his last test before playing the Australian Open with the invitation he received by the organization.
