Limardo finished ninth in the Heidenheim Cup

The Venezuelan espadista has said present in up to six competitions so far this year

The épée athlete Rubén Limardo continues to work hard in his desire to attend the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Being healthy and active has been the focus of the Venezuelan throughout this year and this Friday he demonstrated it again by saying that he was present at the Heidenheim-Cup.

The London 2012 Olympic champion finished ninth in the event that brought together 268 competitors from all over the world.  

"Today it was not possible," announced the current Pan American champion on his Instagram account.

"Heidenheim you escaped for now, but I'm sure I'll come back for you," Limardo said.

Being number 3 in the world, Limardo did not have to fight before Tableau 64.

It started with a 15-9 win over two-time world champion Tibor Andrasfi of Hungary. And then, in the Round of 32, he won 15-10 over the Italian Simone Mencarelli.

Already in the Tableau of 16, the Venezuelan was surpassed 11-9 by the Hungarian Mate Tamas Koch, 22 years old.

So far this season, Limardo has been present in six competitions, obtaining:

  • Gold at the Budapest Grand Prix
  • 18th place at the Sochi World Cup
  • Absent due to Covid at the Doha Grand Prix
  • Gold at the Bern Grand Prix
  • Position 09 in the Monal Challenge
  • 18th place at the Egyptian Grand Prix
