Zana wins the sprint on stage 18 of the Giro

The Italian cyclist defeated the Frenchman Thibaut Pinot in a tight final

Stage 18 of the 2023 Giro d'Italia was again a national one, this time Filippo Zana was left with the sprint this Thursday.

Zana ended up beating cyclist Thibaut Pinot who put in his best effort since the day's break.

In a close fight to define the race, after kilometers of wear and tear, which left the runners alone.

Zana ended up prevailing in a very closed sprint in which the Italian had more legs than the Frenchman, beaten by the attempts of other days.

Starting in Oderzo and finishing in Val di Zoldo (Palafavera) after 161km. of the route of day 18 was impressive already at the end.

As is customary after the race, the winner of the stage offered statements in which he assured that he took advantage of the opportunities.

"I played my cards well in the final, it was an opportunity that rarely comes along in life and I took advantage of it," he said.

General ranking

Now this Wednesday part of the excitement of the race was in the fight that took place in the favorites peloton.  

In which Primoz Roglic tried to move down to the líder of General Geraint Thomas but he found a well-placed Briton who retained the “pink jersey”.

This Friday stage 19 will be run, which includes a 183-kilometre route starting at Longarone and arriving at Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
