triple play for beginners

A total of 124 Venezuelan-born pitchers have ever pitched in MLB.

Did you know that eight of them have reached a hundred or more wins?

They are in order of wins:

  • Johan Santana 139
  • Carlos Zambrano 132
  • Hannibal Sanchez 112
  • Wilson Alvarez 102
  • Kelvin Escobar 101
  • Carlos Carrasco 100

In the memoirs of the big top, which exceed a hundred seasons, did you know that 23 perfects have been completed?

The authors have been:

  • Lee Richmond in 1880
  • Mount Ward in 1880
  • Cy Young in 1904
  • Addie Joss in 1908
  • Charlie Robertson in 1922
  • Don Larsen in 1956
  • Jim Bunning in 1964
  • Sandy Kufax in 1965
  • Catfish Hunter in 1968
  • Len Barker in 1981
  • Mike Witt in 1984
  • Tom Browning in 1988

  • Dallas Braden in 2010
  • Roy Halladay in 2010
  • Philip Humber in 2012
  • Matt Cain in 2012
  • Felix Hernandez in 2012
Nicaraguan Dennis Martínez and Venezuelan Félix Hernández are the only Latin Americans in the elite group.

And continuing with the brevity of events in the big leagues despite the time that has elapsed, Did you know that only one pitcher has completed no-hitters and no-runs in consecutive starts?

This is Johnny Vander Meer, who achieved the feat between June 11 and 15, 1938.

On June 11 with the Cincinnati Reds against the Boston Braves in
House. He struck out four, walked three and faced 28 batters. Cincinnati won 3-0.

On the 15th against the Dodgers in Brooklyn, Vander Meer struck out seven and walked eight batters. He faced 35 sluggers. The Reds triumphed 6-0.

The left-hander finished that year 1938 with a record of 15 wins and 10 losses and an ERA of 3.12. He was 24 years old.

And in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League, which opened its doors in 1947, Do you know the names and surnames of the four pitchers with the most victories added until the 2022 campaign?

  • José “Carrao” Bracho with 109 victories
  • Diego continued with 95
  • Luis Penalver with 84
  • Luis Leal with 71

By chance, they remember that the names of the two pitchers, imported by mere coincidence, with the most strikeouts in a single campaign are left-handed Bo Belinski, who guillotined 156 batters in the 1961-1962 season with Pampero.

The record for a single challenge is 21 strikeouts, set by Lew Krausse in the 1965-1966 season against the Cardenales de Lara with the uniform of the Leones del Caracas.
