With 29 goals, the Uruguayan striker surpassed Lionel Messi (28)

Luis Suarez was the top historical scorer in the South American soccer qualifiers.

The Uruguayan scored 29 goals in the entire South American tie, while Lionel Messi had 28 goals.

While the Bolivian striker Marcelo Moreno Martins was in third place with 22 points.

The Uruguayan's record was at risk of being broken in the absence of the match between Brazil and Argentina.
