The Colombian Coach Jorge luis pinto, 66, resigned this Wednesday as Millonarios coach after being eliminated in the regular phase of the Closing Tournament and failing to meet the objectives set at the beginning of the year, when he was hired.
“I want to inform public opinion, the Millonarios fans and the media that I have submitted to the Millonarios FC Board of Directors my resignation as the team's technical director. My appreciation and admiration always for this great institution, ”said the strategist in a brief message published on his social networks.
The capital club finished in eleventh place with 28 points, four less than Cúcuta Deportivo, which was eighth and obtained the last quota for the semifinal homers.
During the semester, the team won eight games, drew four and lost another eight, being eliminated despite being at the top of the table until a few weeks ago.
Millonarios fell into a losing streak and lost five of the last seven games, one of them 2-4 with his hometown rival, Independiente Santa Fe, also from Bogota, and tied two others.
For its part, the team reported in a brief message on that same social network that Pinto "has resigned from his position" as technical director.
"The resignation was presented to the board of directors, which will meet in the coming days," the club stressed.
Pinto, who arrived in January as a replacement for the Argentine Miguel Ángel Russo, had an outstanding first semester in which his team was lord and master of the championship during the regular phase, which he led with 39 points.
However, in the semi-final home runs he was eliminated by Deportivo Pasto, who were runner-up in the tournament after losing in the final to Junior de Barranquilla.
If his resignation is accepted, Pinto would finish his third stage at the head of the capital club. He first directed it between 1984 and 1985 and then between 1998 and 1999.
In his record, the Colombian strategist has a Peruvian League title with Alianza Lima (1997), two Costa Rican championships with Alajuelense (2002 and 2003), a Colombian Clausura tournament with Cúcuta Deportivo (2006) and a Venezuelan Championship with Deportivo Tachira (2011).
Pinto has also managed other Colombian teams such as Independiente Santa Fe, Unión Magdalena, Deportivo Cali, Atlético Bucaramanga and Junior de Barranquilla.
