Saudi Arabia surprised Argentina

Those led by Hervé Renard cut the streak of 36 games without seeing defeat for Argentina

In a game with high expectations, the Saudi Arabia team gave the surprise of the tournament and defeated one of the South American favorites, Argentina 2-1.

Those led by Lionel Scaloni jumped onto the field with the premise of winning their first match in Qatar, but they ran into a wall that was the Middle East team.

While those led by Hervé Renard stood up to the South American giant and did not let him develop his football.

Led by Lionel Messi Argentina began dominating the match and it was Lio himself who opened the scoring of the game at minute 9 and made it 1-0.

In a bad action by Saudi Arabia inside the area, the referee whistled a penalty in favor of the albiceleste, and after a VAR review, sentenced the maximum penalty. The same as the one from PSG would charge.

This being the seventh goal for the Argentine star in the World Cup. Also with this goal, Messi equaled Cristiano Ronaldo with 7 goals in world cups.

The first half would unfold atypically, the Argentines suffered up to three goal disallowances due to offside position.

Among these, a score against Messi was annulled in the 21st minute of the match. The other two would be annulled for Lautaro Martínez.

Second time

In the second half of the match, Saudi Arabia recalibrated its lines and played face to face with the champion of America.

The Saudis knew how to decipher the Albiceleste line-up and it was in the 48th minute that Saleh Al Sherhi put parity on the scoreboard.

Argentina did not recover from the tie when the second goal came in fraction 53, in Al Dawsari's boots.

Who received in the area and looked for space for the shot, in the action the scorer took out a couple of defenders to score on the goal.

An important fact is that the Argentine team has not lost the first match of a World Cup since Italy 1990.

Argentina couldn't believe it and never recovered from this Saudi attack. Those of Scaloni will now have to face the match against Mexico with lead foot, next Saturday.
