UEFA Best Player and Coach Finalists

Carlo Ancelotti and Karim Benzema emerge as favorites in each category

UEFA announced the nominees for the Men's Player of the Year awards and Coach of the Year, where Real Madrid is the favorite to win both awards.

These prizes that will be awarded in the draw for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League 2022-23 on August 25 in Istanbul.

Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid), Josep Guardiola (Manchester City) and Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool) are the three contenders for the 2021-22 Coach of the Year award.

Ancelotti stands as the wide favorite to reach the Champions 14 with the meringues, while Guardiola is the current champion of the Premier League.

The list of coaches also featured Oliver Glasner (Eintracht Frankfurt), Unai Emery (Villarreal) and José Mourinho (Roma).

As for the finalists for the Player of the Year award are the Belgian Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) and the Madrid players Karim Benzema and Thibaut Courtois.

The list consisted of 15 figures, among which were:

  • Robert Lewandowski
  • Luka Modric
  • Sadio Mané
  • Mohamed Salah
  • Kyian Mbappe
  • Vinicius Junior
  • Virgil van Dijk

Benzema was named Player of the Season 2021/22 and became Real Madrid's second all-time goalscorer, making him a favorite for the award.

For his part, Courtois won the Spanish league and was the man of the match in the Champions League final.
