Willson Contreras has no regrets about spring training

The catcher does not regret the decision not to attend the World Baseball Classic

Baseball player Willson Contreras was one of the most important casualties in Venezuela for the World Baseball Classic (WBC). However, this decision has not been entirely negative.

The player made the decision to join the St. Louis Cardinals in spring training to earn a place in the big team and so far the organization is quite happy about this.

During recent statements to MLB.com, Contreras did not regret having been absent for the World Classic, claiming that there are other priorities than defending the Vinotinto baseball team.

“Probably some players and some people didn't like it, but everyone has their priorities,” Willson said.

"I am not saying that Venezuela is not a priority, because it is my country, but this is a completely new team and I need to spend more time with them here," he added.

Willson is currently shaping up to be the Cardinals' starting catcher for Opening Day, thanks to the good performances he has had in training both with the pitchers and offensively.

“I'm focused on learning about my pitching staff, learning about my team, doing everything I can to make this team a little bit better. I'm focused on learning about my pitching staff, learning about my team, doing everything I can to make this team a little bit better,” he concluded.
