Senators started the defense of the title in good shape

Leaning on Oswaldo Arcia's bat, the people of the capital sentenced Centauros

The current champion of the Major League of Professional Baseball (LMBP), Senadores de Caracas, started the new edition on the right foot. Víctor Garate's men beat the debutant Centauros de La Guaira on Thursday 5-4 in an intense duel at the UCV Park.

Senadores took advantage of the blinks of starter Omar Bencomo Jr. and took the lead with a hairline in the first inning after a sacrifice fly by Oswaldo Arcia.

Two innings later, after one out at the plate, the people from the capital scored a couple more runs with a line drive by Arcia and a hit to the opposite side by Keury De La Cruz.

In the fourth inning, captain Alberto González extended Senadores' lead to 4-0 with a line drive to left field.

Centauros scored their first streak in the top of the sixth off the legs of outfielder Greifer Andrade. But he immediately received the response from the capital.

At the close of that same episode, with two men on base, Arcia once again put the ball in play and drove in the fifth Senadores run.

However, victory would not be as easy as it had become.

Centauros relied on Brandon Linares and Carlos Durán to make three lines - between the seventh and eighth episodes - and put the game only by one (5-4).

The right-hander Ricardo Rodríguez then entered for Senators and managed to get the ninth blank to claim the rescue.

The victory went to Fernando Pérez (1-0), who replaced starter Maykol Guaipe after he pitched 4.0 scoreless innings. And the setback was aimed at Bencomo Jr. (0-1).

Oswaldo Arcia finished 4-2 with three RBIs, while "Tico" González went 5-3 with an RBI and others scored.
