Zack Greinke will stay with the Royals

The right-hander goes to his 20th season in the Major Leagues

Zack Greinke and the Royals have reached a one-season deal, MLB.com's Anne Rogers reported Monday.

The club has not confirmed the agreement that is subject to medical examinations.

Zack Greinke, who will turn 40 in October, is entering his 20th major league season. In 2022, in his return to Kansas City, he pitched effectively.

He has allowed two runs or fewer in 17 of his 26 starts, posting a 3.68 ERA and a 111 ERA+. Among active pitchers, he finished the race as:

  • First in starts (514) and innings pitched (3,247)
  • Second in wins (223, behind Justin Verlander)
  • Third in strikeouts (2,882)
