Denis Phipps was the hero of Tigres

The imported slugger was key for Aragua to improve its record to 8-17

Denis Phipps returned to action and made his mark in a match that seemed impossible to win for Aragua Tigers.

After scoring a run-scoring single to break a 7-7 tie, in the eighth inning.

For those from Aragua to defeat Caribes de Anzoátegui 8-7 at the José Pérez Colmenares Stadium in Maracay.

With two out and pinch runner Leobaldo Piña at third, Phipps fired a single to right field.

The same one that led Piña to the plate with the little line of difference.

Aragua who had to come back twice to be able to come out ahead in the clash of the sixth week of the harvest.

The cats trailed 5-0 after two and a half innings. To then equalize the score at 5-5, they found themselves behind again in the eighth leg when La Tribu produced a pair of scores to take a 7-5 lead on the scoreboard.

The eighth inning would arrive for the striped team and with Denis Phipps in the batter's box they resumed control of the match.

Phipps, who has been off the roster since November 11 and was reactivated for the sixth septenary of the contest after recovering from physical problems.

The right fielder tripled in four at-bats, scored one run and drove in three.

The first of his annotations was in the fifth section with a sacrifice fly that served for José Martínez to score from the third base and cut the advantage of Caribes (5-2).

The other one drove in with a triple in the seventh act that allowed him to mark catcher Dennis Ortega, to even the score 5-5. He then hit his golden hit in the eighth to dress up as a hero.

The import was key for Aragua to improve its record to 8-17. The club continues in the basement of a table, in which Caribes (10-14) appears sixth.
