Betting on reinforcing the catcher, Cardenales de Lara signed the young catcher Hendrik Clementina who belongs to the Atlanta Braves organization.
The mask, 25 years old, was born in Curaçao but of a Venezuelan mother. He will therefore be able to see action in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) as Venezuelan.
"He's a pretty strong player and he performs very well at catcher, he can play first or DH, so he would give us depth in the lineup," said José Yépez, sports manager for the crepusculars.
"In addition (he can) support (Yojhan) Quevedo in the first days while we wait for Alí Sánchez to join, who will probably go up to the big leagues with Detroit," he added.
As detailed by the Cardinals press department, Clementina in the minor leagues has a lifetime average of .256 and an OPS of .732 in 1.616 at-bats.
He has driven in 240 runs and hit 60 home runs.
The LVBP's 2022-2023 campaign will be their first experience in the winter leagues.
Juan Francés, a new cardinal
The Red Birds also announced Thursday outfielder Juan Frances, who currently plays as a youth in Major League Baseball Professional (LMBP) and is expected to sign with the Cleveland Guardians.
“He is the type of player we are looking for in the future, he has a very good defense, he also has a happy bat,” added Yépez.
