Karim Benzema leaves Real Madrid after 14 years

The striker leaves the club as the second all-time scorer with 353 goals

El Real Madrid announced this Sunday the official departure of the French striker and captain, Karim Benzema. He leaves the team after 14 years defending his colors.

The information was released by the team through a statement on their social networks. The team thanked her for all the achievements and commitment she made with them.

“Real Madrid CF and our captain Karim Benzema have agreed to end his brilliant and unforgettable period as a player for our club. He came to our club in 2009, at just 21 years old, and he has been a fundamental player in this golden age of our history,” the club said.

Throughout his 14 seasons, the French striker won 25 titles. These are divided into 5 European Cups, 5 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 4 Leagues, 3 Copas del Rey and 4 Spanish Super Cups.

The Frenchman also won the Ballon d'Or last season and was the UEFA Player of the Year. That same season he was included in the FIFA FIFPRO Eleven and won the 2022 Pichichi Trophy.

Benzema is also the fifth player who has defended the Real Madrid shirt the most with 647 appearances and is the second all-time scorer with 353 goals.

Benzema's farewell ceremony will take place on Tuesday, June 6 at Real Madrid City with the presence of the board of directors and members of the team.
