Uruguay candidate to host the 2030 World Cup

The president of CONMEBOL, Alejandro Domínguez supports the proposal

The president of the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), Ignacio Alonso, considered it "fair" that the 2030 World Cup be held "where it all began" in 1930.

“It is just the fact of organizing the World Cup, the 100 years, in the place where it all began, where the guts, the courage, the courage to put things on the table were had,” he said at a joint press conference with the sports authorities of Argentina, Paraguay and Chile, which accompany Uruguay in the candidacy.

The president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), Alejandro Domínguez, led the presentation event of the so-called "Centennial World Cup", to honor the first World Cup event, held in Uruguay in 1930.

Alonso recalled "the emotion and responsibility" with which Uruguay began the dream of this candidacy, to which the other three countries were later added, "for this so beautiful that the world championship is."

The event, held this Tuesday was attended by the National Secretary of Sports of Uruguay, Sebastián Bauzá; the Minister of Tourism and Sports of Argentina, Matías Lammens; the Chilean Sports Minister, Alexandra Benado; and the one from Paraguay, Diego Galeano.

In addition to Alonso, the president of the Paraguayan Football Federation (FPF), Robert Harrison; that of the National Professional Football Association (ANFP) of Chile, Pedro Miland; and the vice president of the Argentine Football Association, Rodolfo D'Onofrio.

In the run-up to the press conference, there was a protocol act at the Football Museum, located in the grounds of the Centenario Stadium, in which the president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, was present.
