The Venezuelan team achieved a very outstanding performance in the recently completed First Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities, by getting into the position 11 among 26 Countries with 7 points. The event was organized for the first time in history by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in the emblematic city of Belgrade in Serbia, and allowed our country to position itself as the best team in the American Continent.
The Venezuelan team was made up of the National Masters (MN) Edgar Rivas and Harlen Otero, as well as National Expert (EN) Víctor Abiad (who shone with 4,5 points out of 6 possible, finishing undefeated and fourth in the Ranking of his Board) and the Yaracuyan talent Henry Monterrey, who were accompanied by FIDE Master (MF) José Arturo Torres as Captain and the delegate, the Federation José Luis González.
