The Venezuelan team achieved a very outstanding performance in the recently completed First Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities, by getting into the position 11 among 26 Countries with 7 points. The event was organized for the first time in history by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in the emblematic city of Belgrade in Serbia, and allowed our country to position itself as the best team in the American Continent.

The Venezuelan team was made up of the National Masters (MN) Edgar Rivas and Harlen Otero, as well as National Expert (EN) Víctor Abiad (who shone with 4,5 points out of 6 possible, finishing undefeated and fourth in the Ranking of his Board) and the Yaracuyan talent Henry Monterrey, who were accompanied by FIDE Master (MF) José Arturo Torres as Captain and the delegate, the Federation José Luis González. The final triumph took him from brilliant way the team from Poland with perfect score of 12 pointsfollowed of the IPCA team with 10 points and bronze corresponded to the Philippines with 8 points and a better tiebreaker than the teams of India, Serbia 1 and Uzbekistan.

The members of the Venezuelan team thank especially the support given by the Sports Federation for the Blind of Venezuela (FEPOCIVE, the Venezuelan Chess Federation (FVA) and FIDE to be able to participate in the great Olympic event and hope to have an adequate Sports Training Plan for future sports competitions in 2023, which include the IBSA World Games in August in Birmingham, the IBCA World Championships in Greece and the Pan American Championships in Guatemala.
