Youth will have less prominence in 2022

After the announcement of the official format that the Liga Futve 2022 will have, it was also reported regarding the elimination of the youth rule on the court. It had been in force for the last 14 years and as of this season it will not go into effect.

In its place, a reserve tournament for the sub-23 category will begin to be played in which the youth will be able to continue developing their football development until they make their debut in the first division.

Karim Assafo, former sports manager of Caracas Fútbol Club and Deportivo Táchira, disagreed with the measure to abolish the youth rule.

“I am 100% in agreement with the reserve tournament because it is something that we had already raised previously. However, one measure does not necessarily have to finish the other. Now the youth will not be treated in the same way as a professional footballer, "explained Assafo.

The soccer manager and promoter added: “The youth rule on the field had more virtues than defects, and it also allows players to really have the illusion of making their professional debut. In the future we will see the consequences of this.”

"It was this same rule that allowed us to go for the first time to a U-20 World Cup (Egypt 2009) and from which great figures such as Salomón Rondón, Yhonatan del Valle and José Manuel Velázquez came out," Assafo recalled about that selection that marked a milestone.

"The world runner-up in the same category in 2017 is not a coincidence either," he pointed out, appealing to his renowned experience.

“We must match the elite, but always looking up, not down. If sometimes we do not receive the visit of international scouts for a first division tournament, much less will they do it for a reserve one ”, concluded the leader.
