Sevilla may have said goodbye to the dream of conquering LaLiga after losing 1-0 at home to Athletic Bilbao (9th) this Monday at the close of the 34th day of the Spanish championship.
Pressured after the weekend victories of Atlético de Madrid (líder with 76 points) Real Madrid and Barcelona (2nd and 3rd with 74 units), the Seville team was obliged to win to stay in the fight for the title, but after the defeat they have 70 points, when there are only four days left to go of the championship.
Forward Iñaki Williams buried the hopes of the Andalusians by scoring the only goal of the match in the 90th minute.
"The heart has been stronger and we have lacked a little more pause, but still I think we deserved to win," admitted Sevillian coach Julen Lopetegui, who claimed a penalty not assigned to his team.
"We have lost despite clearly deserving the three points after scoring many chances," said the Basque coach.
Sevilla will rush their last hopes of fighting for the title next weekend by visiting Real Madrid, on a day in which Atlético and Barcelona will also face each other at the Camp Nou.
After the results of the weekend, Julen Lopetegui's team had no choice but to win, but as the minutes progressed and the goal did not come, largely due to the great performance of the Red goalkeeper Unai Simón, nerves and anxiety took over the premises, which ended up giving way in the last breath.
